Witchcraft and witch-hunting cases are a special and interesting dimension of studies about woman matters. In addition to being a historical, anthropological and sociological phenomenon, this legend, as well as being a historical fact, is an item which has found place for itself in superstitious/wording systems of all cultures and has been reflected to their art as literature, painting and film story etc. This review aims to present a brief historical story of “witch hunt” incidents in which women have often been the accused part and the victims of witchery. Besides, in this historical sequence, it also aims to emphasize both the real economical, ideological, religious and patriarchal reasons lying under the charge of witchcraft and of women using witchery as a against-frightening and or defence mechanisms to be able to cope with that frightening and or threatening system.
