ÖZ

Primary aim of this paper is to evaluate Journal of Adimlar as an example of public sociology published in 1943 . In order to achieve this purpose paradigmatic analysis in terms of semiotics and it's principles are applied . In this study " art is always for art versus art is always for society"; "new humanism versus old humanism" and "universal literature versus local literature" are investigated as binary oppositions of semiotics. One of the basic assumption of this evaluation process was "priority should be given today when you search your origin " (Boran,1943) . Findings revealed that Journal of Adimlar and it's publisher Behice Boran both were very keen to struggle with opposites or conservatives who were against the change. The name of Journal as being Steps itself was showing that change and progress are both very important for Turkey. Boran with support of Muzaffer Serif really work hard to warn society against coming radical movements like racism and always tried to balance universal and local culture when directing society to change. At the end of paper several suggestions are also made to follow Behice Boran's tradition as a public sociology.
